Sensitivity of Typhoon Forecast to Prescribed Sea Surface Temperature Data

چکیده

This study investigates the impact of sea surface temperature (SST) on forecast two typhoons, which consecutively hit South Korea in 2020. SST data were obtained from Daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature (OISST) version 2 and HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model/Navy Coupled Data Assimilation (HYCOM/NCODA; GLBy0.08/expt_93.0). When verified using situ observational data, OISST did not accurately estimate changes during each typhoon’s landfall period compared to HYCOM since it has a relatively low temporal resolution. To investigate these typhoon forecasts, we conducted sensitivity experiments Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model. The results showed that simulated intensities significantly improved simulations with (HY runs), while track performances similar both runs. In addition, maximum wind speed at 10 m HY Therefore, this overall intensity could be when higher temporal-resolution prescribed model boundary conditions for better representation typhoon-induced changes.

Influence of Noul Typhoon on Sea Surface Temperature, Heat Fluxes and Precipitation Rate

This paper presents how a typhoon can change the sea surface temperature (SST) and heat fluxes trend. As a case study, Noul typhoon was investigated over the South China Sea. It affected South China Sea from November 14 to November 17 in 2008. Using archived data of National Centers for Environmental Prediction / National Center for Atmospheric Research data set, the effects of Noul typhoon on ...

Capabilities of data assimilation in correcting sea surface temperature in the Persian Gulf

Predicting the quality of water and air is a particular challenge for forecasting systems that support them. In order to represent the small-scale phenomena, a high-resolution model needs accurate capture of air and sea circulations, significant for forecasting environmental pollution. Data assimilation is one of the state of the art methods to be used for this purpose. Due to the importance of...
